Comfort and Courage

This I dedicate to you, Edith dahling.

We met when you were almost ten. I would have been thirteen then, a difficult time at best. Those who I would call my friends filled their days with Hansen, N'Sinc, and cackling like drunken chickens about other people's eccentricities. I, of course, couldn't let them know who I really was. I hid behind music, clothes, and hair clips, and tried to make myself as invisible as possible. How could they ever accept me? After all, I still let my imagination run wild. I could still become a dragon, or a princess, or a lion, and completely forget my human side. They had forgotten how, and I was alone. But when I met you, all that changed. I didn't need to hide with you, we were kindred spirits. Sisters. From that day on, we spent every moment possible together. We went on bug hunts, made forts, and became people we never would have thought of on our own. We still have the most wonderful time, and we always will.

We always will be sisters, no matter how far apart we may be. You gave me the courage to be myself when I had no one else to support me. I know you say I helped you, but you helped me more than you know. I am always here to support you. My house is yours to inhabit, my fridge is yours to raid, and anytime you need me, I am here.

And one of these days, I will find you a unicorn.
